CNN’s Awkward Interview with Martha Stewart: ‘I thought this was going to be about my beautiful entertaining book’

By Chris Ariens

Kind of a rough show for CNN’s Suzanne Malveaux Monday. During the NoonET hour, this happened. About an hour earlier, Malveaux interviewed Martha Stewart about her new book — her 75th. After a couple questions on the book, Malveaux asked about the new book by Stewart’s daughter Alexis, “Whateverland,” which does not always give a flattering portrayal of her mother. “I’m not going to say anything bad about the book, because we were laughing hysterically when we read it,” said Stewart.

Malveaux then tried to move on, asking about Stewart’s time in prison. “I thought this was going to be about my beautiful entertaining book!”

And then politics, as Malveaux said: “You are a very successful businesswoman. You’re also an active Republican.”

“Where did you get that?” Stewart asked. “I have always been a registered Democrat.”

Politico edited together some of the highlights, after the jump…
