CNN Special Set to Salute David Letterman

CNN will bid farewell to Late Show host David Letterman with a one-hour special, David Letterman Says Goodnight, hosted by Jake Tapper. The special, airing Tuesday at 9 p.m., will review Letterman’s impact on late-night television, and feature interviews with Paul Shaffer, Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O’Brien and Seth Meyers.

Merrill Markoe, Letterman’s lead writer and longtime girlfriend, credited with some of the show’s most iconic segments, including “viewer mail” and “Stupid Pet Tricks,” tells Tapper that Letterman was rarely comfortable in success. “He was in constant fear of cancellation.”
