CNN Reminds Employees They Can’t Participate in Women’s Marches

On Saturday, in cities across the country and around the world, more than one million people are expected to gather for rallies and marches inspired by the Women’s March on Washington.

While TV networks will be covering the events, news organizations are reminding their employees they are not allowed to participate. At the CNN editorial meeting Wednesday morning, Rick Davis, who heads up CNN Standards & Practices, reminded employees that they are not allowed to participate in the events.

CNN tells TVNewser it has a longstanding policy that employees may not participate in political marches or rallies. “Rick was simply re-iterating the policy in advance of the marches this weekend,” a spokesperson says.

We’ve reached out to other networks and asked about their policies. NBC News declined to comment. ABC News said it will have reporters covering the march, not participating, which is also their policy.
