Two CNN producers were arrested for repeatedly trying to sneak into an enclosed area of the World Trade Center site today — apparently trying to test security at the site.
Port Authority police say Yon Pomrenze, 35, and Connor Fieldman Boals, 26, first attempted to pass through a main gate. Officers then saw Boals twice try to climb a fence on the northern edge of the site, near the PATH train station. The men, police say, then tried to push their way through a gate at which point they were arrested. Police confiscated a GoPro camera and a video camera on a tripod and arrested the men for criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.
A CNN spokesperson tells the NYPost the two “were not asked to sneak onto the World Trade Center site.”
The arrests follow two security breaches at the site. Early Sunday, a New Jersey teenager made his way into One World Trade Center, and yesterday four men turned themselves in after taking part in a base-jumping stunt from the 1,776-foot tower back in September.
Pomrenze has been with CNN for two years, and before that spent 7 years at NBC News. Boals has been with CNN since January. Before that he produced videos for Now This News.
