How a CNN Medical Marijuana Report Changed Senator Harry Reid’s Mind

sanjay guptaSenate Majority Leader Harry Reid recently changed course on whether marijuana should be made legal for medicinal purposes, and a report by CNN’s Sanjay Gupta played a part.

Reid told The Las Vegas Sun that if you asked him years ago about legalizing medicinal marijuana, his answer was a quick no, but CNN and NPR reports changed his mind.

Reid cited CNN and NPR reports about children suffering from seizures as well, to make the case that over the past several years, he’d come to think that marijuana seemed a sensible and humane treatment for people suffering from particular conditions with no other treatment or cure.

The CNN report Reid cites came from Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s “WEED” special last summer, where he told the story of a 5-year-old girl from Colorado stricken with a lifetime of untreatable seizures. After exhausting all options, the girls parents tried marijuana in her food: and her seizures declined from hundreds a month to two to three.
