CNN Heroes Builds on Last Year’s Viewership

By Chris Ariens

CNN took a risk by airing this year’s CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute on Thanksgiving Night. And in seems to have paid off in viewership.

The show drew 1.03 million Total Viewers, making it the most-watched show of the evening and giving CNN the win for prime time (8-11pmET). CNN also built on its audience at 9pmET after airing several hours of breaking news coverage on the terror siege in Mumbai. (CNN had averaged 1.33 million Total Viewers the previous five weeknights from 9-11pmET).

In the ad-friendly A25-54 demo, Heroes drew 353,000 viewers, up 79% from last year’s 197,000.

However, MSNBC came in first in the demo averaging 396,000 viewers. The network aired MSNBC Investigates all night.

Insiders tell us discussions are already underway for Heroes ’09 with nominations being accepted beginning in January.
