CNN Gears Up For Another “Heroes”

By Chris Ariens

Tonight Larry King will announce the launch of the third “Heroes” event for CNN. Nominations opened on January 1 and CNN has already received 1,200 submissions – on pace for a record number.

The 2008 award, presented during a telecast on Thanksgiving night, went to Liz McCartney and her organization, St. Bernard’s Project. The group, which rebuilds homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, was featured in MTV’s live coverage of the “Youth Inaugural Ball,” as they rebuilt their 175th house. As of last Friday, the project has completed 186 homes built by more than 11,000 volunteers.

Insiders tell us “Heroes: An All-Star Tribute” will once again be held in Los Angeles and the hero of the year award will again be $100,000.
