CNN Fires Editor for Plagiarism

By Chris Ariens

cnnlogoCNN has dismissed Marie-Louise Gumuchian, an editor at CNN.com, after the network discovered multiple instances of plagiarism. Gumuchian covered international news from CNN’s London bureau. In an editor’s note published on CNN.com, Meredith Artley, Managing Editor and VP of CNN Digital, Manuel Perez, Editorial Director of CNN Digital and Richard Griffiths, Senior Editorial Director and VP at CNN, write that an unpublished story flagged last week during the editing process “led to an internal investigation that uncovered other examples in about 50 published stories.” Their investigation is ongoing.

“Trust, integrity and simply giving credit where it’s due are among the tenets of journalism we hold dear,” the note reads. “We also believe in letting audiences know when we’ve remedied situations that threaten to compromise that trust.”
