CNN has corrected an inaccurate report from Tuesday which claimed that former FBI Director James Comey would dispute Pres. Trump’s claims that he told the president he was not under investigation.
Yesterday, Comey made his opening remarks public, and outlined the instances in which he, in fact, told the president he was not under investigation.
CNN’s original story was based on anonymous sources who told the network the former FBI director’s conversations with the president “were much more nuanced,” and that Pres. Trump apparently drew an incorrect conclusion from them.
“Comey is going to dispute the president on this point if he’s asked about it by senators,” Gloria Borger, CNN’s chief political analyst, said on-air Tuesday. “He will say he never assured Donald Trump that he was not under investigation.”
CNN corrected the story online, and Borger would go on to correct CNN’s report on-air last night.
The article and headline have been corrected to reflect that Comey does not directly dispute that Trump was told multiple times he was not under investigation in his prepared testimony released after this story was published.
The network has no further statement, telling TVNewser “we let the correction stand for itself.”
