CNBC Expanding Into Conference, Analytics Business with Institutional Investor Partnership

By Alex Weprin

CNBC is partnering with Institutional Investor magazine to launch a number of new products and services, including a conference business and a proprietary research and analytics business.

The two organizations will also share financial news, analysis and information.

Because of their highly specialized focus, the business networks have an opportunity to reach out beyond television and tap new revenue streams in the sectors they specialize in. The deal allows CNBC to go beyond advertising and carriage fees, while also expanding its reach in the lucrative–but highly technical–financial professionals category.

Conferences and custom research are very expensive to produce, but can be extremely profitable, particularly when a big-name brand is behind them.
