“Nightline” led with the story last night, and today NBC’s Brian Williams got reaction from Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. and NATO Commander in Afghanistan about the Gainesville, Florida church which plans to burn Korans this Saturday — the 9th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
Nightline’s Terry Moran traveled to Gainesville yesterday to interview Pastor Terry Jones who is behind the “Burn a Koran Day.” And today, Williams talked with Gen. Petraeus who said, “such an act would jeopardize the safety of our soldiers and our civilians,” adding “We’re concerned that the images from the burning of a Koran would be used in the same way that extremists used images from Abu Ghraib, that they would in a sense be indelible. They would be in cyberspace forever.”
A rough search on TVEyes shows the story has become a leading topic on the cable news channels. It’s been mentioned 117 times in the last 24 hours (since 4pmET Tuesday) — the most mentions on HLN followed closely by MSNBC, with the least amount of coverage on Fox News.
The question now is, how will the TV news networks cover the planned burning and how much, if any, will they show? We’re asking…
