Chris Hayes Apologizes After Labeling Segregationist Governor a Republican

By Alex Weprin Comment

MSNBC “All In” host Chris Hayes apologized on Twitter, after a graphic on last night’s program labeled segregationist Alabama Governor George Wallace a Republican, instead of a Democrat.

“This was a stupid, inexcusable, historically illiterate mistake.I should have caught it and apologize for failing to,” Hayes tweeted.

The mistake will also be acknowledged and corrected on “All In” at 8 PM this evening.

While Hayes is generally more subdued than your typical primetime cable news host, he has gotten in hot water before. About a year ago, he apologized for comments he made on his weekend show “Up” when he said he was “uncomfortable” calling soldiers “heroes” because the term┬ácan be used to justify potentially unpopular or improper actions by others in the government.

Update: Video of the apology, after the jump.
