This morning on GMA, Chris Cuomo announced he will be leaving the show and joining Elizabeth Vargas as co-anchor of “20/20.”
Cuomo’s news comes just hours before the expected announcement that beginning Monday George Stephanopoulos will be named co-anchor of GMA alongside Robin Roberts and longtime ABC News correspondent Juju Chang will be named news anchor of the show.
“The good news is you never really leave family,” he said, promising to show his “mug” around “Good Morning America” in the future.
Cuomo joined GMA three years ago and in addition to his news reader duties has anchored segments, filled-in as anchor and reported from the field on breaking news stories including the Fort Hood shooting, Hurricane Rita and the Sago mine tragedy.
Cuomo calls the “20/20” opportunity “a dream job,” adding, “it was also a very difficult decision, because I am leaving a special place and crew and all of you and you are all part of my family.”
