Quarterback Chad Pennington is stepping away from football for at least one year and will join the NFL on Fox broadcast crew in the fall as a game analyst.
The 35-year-old signed a one-year contact and will work with play-by-play man Sam Rosen when the season starts.
Pennington is recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament that he injured while playing pickup basketball.

“He came to Los Angeles for an audition a few weeks ago and we think he has a chance to be a pretty successful analyst,” Fox Sports spokesman Dan Bell told The Miami Herald Saturday morning.
