Celebrities, Journalists, Politicos Praise Larry King

This week is the last one for CNN’s long-running 9 PM program “Larry King Live.” King’s final show is Thursday, with the network running “best of” programs until Piers Morgan takes over in January.

In the meantime, many of King’s guests, colleagues and even competitors have been speaking out publicly in praise of the host.

Greta Van Susteren, the Fox News Channel host who became a well-known legal commentator on CNN during the O. J. Simpson trial, said the critics who lament what they see as softball questions are “grossly naïve.”

“He makes his guests feel very comfortable and want to talk, and they do,” she said…

The range of subjects touched by “Larry King Live” has always amazed and amused outside commentators. “Not many people could interview Putin and then Snooki,” said Katie Couric, the CBS News anchor. Mr. Maher cited a memorable example: “One night it was Margaret Thatcher, the next night it was a Lawrence Welk reunion.”

CNN has been keeping the guest(s) for King’s final show a secret so far. King has said publicly he wanted former New York governor Mario Cuomo–who was his first guest on the program–to appear, though other reports have pegged the program as a star-studded affair.
