LaCrai Mitchell, a production assistant for CBS News, has been named 2016 Student Journalist of the Year by the National Association of Black Journalists.

A December, 2015 graduate of Florida A&M University, Mitchell interned for CNN International in Atlanta when she was still enrolled at FAMU. She was also one of five Knight Foundation Digital Media Fellows, received an Investigative Reporters & Editors (IRE) scholarship and was named the winner of RTDNA’s 2015 Michele Clark Fellowship, named for the first African-American woman network television correspondent.

“She serves as a great example of how a student journalist can succeed when they take advantage of opportunities,” said NABJ president Sarah Glover said.
