PBS and CBS News were the big winners at last night’s News and Documentary Emmys at the Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City.
PBS took home 11 Emmys while CBS won 10. ABC News won three; NBC News and BBC News two, and CNN and Al Jazeera America both earned one.
“60 Minutes” was the top single show, winning five Emmys for stories on Africa Mercy; China’s real estate bubble; Guantanamo Bay and Gitmo; imminent danger caused by mental illness, and recyclers making music from trash. The network also took home honors for its Boston Marathon bombing coverage, Charlie Rose’s interview with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and “Face the Nation’s” coverage of the 50th anniversary of JFK’s assassination. “48 Hours” won two Emmys for stories on art theft and the manhunt for the Boston Marathon bombing perpetrator.
ABC News’ “Nightline” took home all three trophies for the network. The newsmagazine earned honors for a Brian Ross investigation into fraud in China and U.S. markets, a story about underage prostitution rings in the Philippines; and an investigation into Rio’s drug gangs. NBC News earned honors for specials on the Boston Marathon bombings and “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams'” reporting on the tornado in Moore, Oklahoma.
CNN photojournalist Mark Phillips won for his video work from Afghanistan and the Philippines. The CNN en Español primetime program Panorama Mundial also earned an Emmy. Al Jazeera America won for its “Fault Lines” special on “Haiti in a time of Cholera.”
