CBS News Names its Next Foreign Correspondent

By A.J. Katz

CBS News has named Ben Tracy its next foreign correspondent, and he will be based in Beijing beginning this spring.

The LA-based Tracy has been with CBS News since January 2008, joining the broadcast network after a stint at its Minneapolis-St. Paul affiliate WCCO. Tracy, currently a national correspondent, came to CBS News to report for The Early Show and The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, and has reported on a wide variety of stories during his time at the network, including the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, the 2014 hostage crisis in Sydney, the 2011 tsunami and earthquake in Japan, and various pieces across the US.

CBS News’s Adriana Diaz will move from Beijing back to the States, and will become a CBS News correspondent based in Chicago.

Here’s the note CBS News president David Rhodes sent to staff today from Beijing:

Good Monday evening from Beijing—where I’m pleased to let everyone know that Ben Tracy will begin covering Asia this spring as a CBS News Foreign Correspondent.

Adriana Diaz has done excellent work with the team here. Relocating back to the United States, Adriana will be a CBS News Correspondent based in Chicago.

Ben’s reporting has positioned him perfectly for this important new assignment. Based out of Los Angeles he has shown incredible range on stories such as the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, the 2014 hostage taking in Sydney, 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan—as well as countless excellent pieces from across the USA.

Our coverage of Asia has always distinguished CBS News, making Beijing one of our most important postings. CBS has maintained a continuous presence in China’s capital since 1981. Our presence in Japan through TBS is one of our most critical broadcaster relationships. We are constantly working to open more of the region to more original reporting by CBS News journalists.

Congratulations to Ben and Adriana on these great new assignments.
