CBS News, 48 HR Magazine Reach Deal

By Alex Weprin

CBS News and the creators of 48 Hour Magazine have reached an agreement, ending the two-month old dispute.

In May, CBS sent a cease and desist letter to the magazine’s creators, arguing that it infringed on the copyright they hold on the television newsmagazine, “48 Hours.”

Last month 48 Hour Mag’s creators said they would change the name of the magazine. Business Insider’s Joe Pompeo reports that the new title will be Longshot, and the new company will be called Longshot Media.

As for the agreement with CBS, Pompeo got the scoop from 48 Hr Mag co-creator Mat Honan:

*We’re going to discontinue using the name “48 HR Magazine” or “48 Hour Magazine.” The entity formerly known as 48 HR Mag will be Longshot Magazine.

*We’re also going to surrender ownership of the URL to CBS. That won’t happen immediately, but it’s coming soon.

CBS will also redirect 48hrmag.com visitors to the Longshot Media website through the end of the year.
