CBS Leads TV News with 34 News and Documentary Emmy Nominations

Nominations for the 32nd annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards were announced today, and CBS came out on top with 34 nominations. PBS was right behind them at 32, while NBC picked up 19 and ABC had 12. For the cable news networks, CNN was nominated eight times, CNBC grabbed six nominations, and MSNBC had four.

TV’s most-watched news program was also the most nominated, as “60 Minutes” picked up 23 nominations. NBC’s “Nightly News with Brian Williams” led the evening newscasts with seven nominations, while “CBS Evening News with Katie Couric” had four and “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” had three. NBC and ABC were both nominated for their 2010 election coverage.

This year’s lifetime achievement honoree is Larry King, who has been with CNN for more than 25 years. The awards will be presented on September 26 at Frederick P. Rose Hall at Lincoln Center.
