CBS And Time Warner Cable Strike Temporary Deal… To Air NYC Debates

By Alex Weprin

The retransmission dispute between CBS and Time Warner Cable continues, although the two sides have been able to come to a temporary agreement on one thing, thanks to some prodding by the New York City Council.

The New York City debates for Mayor and Comptroller will air on channel two, even if the two sides have not reached an agreement. The Comptroller debate airs tonight at 7 PM, with the Republican Mayoral debate slated for August 28, and the Democratic Mayoral runoff debate slated for September 28. The debates will also air on channel 75, a backup that was put in place in the event CBS and TWC couldn’t strike a deal.

TWC customers in Los Angeles, Dallas and elsewhere will have to continue making do with Starz Kids.

“We’re pleased to provide New Yorkers the chance to catch the New York City Comptroller debate on Channels 2 and 702 despite the CBS blackout,” said Glenn Britt, Time Warner Cable’s chairman and CEO in a statement. “Customers will be able to tune in and listen to the important topics the Comptroller candidates will discuss about New York City’s financial future.”
