Cable Newsers Cover Times Square Evacuation

By Chris Ariens

The cablers are going wall-to-wall with the evacuation of Times Square this afternoon after a suspicious package was left in front of a hotel there. CNBC’s Brian Shactman, already in Times Square to report on yesterday’s market crash, was on MSNBC, while Fox News had streaming video from the scene and their producer Shira Bush. So, of course, we’re heading over there. Tweet you later…

ABC News’ Times Square studio is located right in the midst of the evacuation.

> FishbowlNY’s Mike Taylor has pictures from on the ground in Times Square.

> During the WCBS’ 2pm news-update, anchor Dana Tyler‘s microphone was accidentally left on as the network went back into “As the World Turns.” A frustrated Tyler could be heard chuckling over the soap, communicating with producers, saying something to the effect of, “I don’t really understand…That was like we did it with a tin can and some string.” Love it.

> As of roughly 2:20pmET, all three cable nets were reporting that Times Square had been reopened.
