Cable Ranker: Campaign 2016 Powers Fox News to No. 1

By Chris Ariens

The 2016 presidential primaries were very good to the cable news channels in February. As we showed you in our monthly ratings reports yesterday, Fox News, CNN and MSNBC were all up.

Fox News was the most-watched basic cable channel for the month (total viewers), in total day and in prime time, ahead of ESPN, USA, HGTV and all others. CNN placed fourth in prime time and ninth in total day (total viewers), and was No. 1 in prime time in the A25-54 demo. MSNBC was 14th in prime time and 18th in total day (total viewers).

Fox News has been No. 1 for the past six weeks, a winning streak that hasn’t been seen since the early days of the Iraq War in 2003.
