Cable Network Ranker: Week of October 1

The first Presidential debate provided a huge boost to the cable news channels last week, as the cable news ranker shows.

Fox News Channel was the number two network in all of ad-supported cable for the week, behind only ESPN in primetime and Nickelodeon in total day. FNC averaged 3.16 million viewers in primetime and 1.43 million in total day.

MSNBC meanwhile cracked the top 10, placing seventh in primetime between FX and TNT, and placing 15th in total day. MSNBC averaged 1.42 million viewers in primetime, and 645,000 viewers in total day. CNN also saw a majort boost, placing 15th in primetime between Discovery Channel and Nick at Nite, and 25th in total day. CNN averaged 1.08 million viewers in primetime, and 484,000 in total day.

HLN was 48th in primetime and 46th in total day, averaging 240,000 and 197,000 viewers, respectively.  Current TV was 88th in primetime and 92nd in total day, averaging 52,000 and 30,000 viewers, respectively.

Among the business networks: CNBC was 50th in primetime and 51st in total day, averaging 217,000 and 164,000 viewers, respectively. Fox Business Network was 83rd in primetime and 79th in total day, averaging 78,000 and 58,000 viewers, respectively. Bloomberg TV isn’t rated by Nielsen, and hasn’t been since it launched in the mid-90’s.
