With the election in the rear-view mirror, the cable news channels slipped from their perches a bit last week.
Fox News, which had been toward the top of the cable network ranker in recent weeks thanks to the election, slipped to seventh among ad-supported cable networks in primetime and fifth in total day. The net averaged 1.73 million viewers in primetime and 1.09 million viewers in total day.
MSNBC slipped to 2oth in primetime and 21st in total day, averaging 954,000 and 552,000 viewers, respectively. CNN fell to 36th in primetime and 33rd in total day, averaging 460,000 and 342,000 viewers, respectively.
HLN was 39th in pimetime and 43rd in total day, averaging 330,000 and 229,000 viewers, respectively. Current TV placed 93rd in primetime and total day, averaging 38,000 and 31,000 viewers, both below Nielsen’s minimum threshold for accuracy.
Among the business networks, CNBC led the way as usual during the slow week, placing 55th in primetime and 51st in total day, averaging 211,000 and 173,000 viewers, respectively. Fox Business Network placed 89th in primetime and 82nd in total day, averaging 49,000 viewers in both categories. Bloomberg TV isn’t rated by Nielsen, and hasn’t been since it launched in 1994.
