Cable Network Ranker: Week of May 9

According to Nielsen Live + Same Day data, Fox News was the week’s most-watched basic cable network in total day, edging Nickelodeon by only 1,000 total viewers. TNT, Adult Swim and HGTV rounded out the top five. FNC was up 17 percent in total day viewers versus the comparable week in 2015, when it finished in 5th place.

The network held the No. 2 spot in average total prime time viewers, finishing behind an NBA playoffs-focused TNT but ahead of ESPN, TBS and HGTV in the daypart. The network averaged slightly more than 2 million total prime time viewers, a 31 percent improvement from the comparable week in 2015, when it finished No. 4.

FNC’s The O’Reilly Factor had 5 telecasts in the top 20 basic cable telecasts (total viewers).

CNN ranked No. 14 in total day viewers and No. 17 in total prime time viewers this past week. The network was up 32 percent in total day viewers versus the comparable week in 2015, and up 64 percent in total prime time viewers.

CNN defeated MSNBC in total day viewers, but the latter knocked off the former in prime time (+28,000).  MSNBC was up 83 in total prime time viewers from the comparable week in 2015, and up 67 percent in total day viewers.
