Cable Nets On The Big Screen

The Bourne Ultimatum continues to rake it in at the box office: $132+ million so far, good enough for second place this weekend. And you’ll be happy to know the film is an equal opportunity network employer. Early on in Bourne, CNN is worked into the script. Later, News Corp.’s SkyNews gets on-air treatment during fictional breaking news in London. But MSNBC gets the most airtime. A bit of a spoiler alert here: as the movie culminates, an actor playing an MSNBC anchor sums up the saga of Jason Bourne, and his uncertain fate. Bourne is a Universal movie, so it may be no surprise the producers kept it inside the family.

Meanwhile, Channel 6 anchor, Kent Brockman helped Springfielders through the dome-tastrophe during “The Simpsons Movie,” which was the number three film at the box office this weekend.
