Brzezinski: “It Is Much Harder To Put Yourself Out There”

By SteveK

In the wake of her recent mugging, The Washington Post’s Howard Kurtz profiles MSNBC’s, and now radio host, Mika Brzezinski.

“I’ve been in a box as a journalist for 20 years,” she says. “That is a very safe and lazy place to be. You can hide behind objectivity. It is much harder to put yourself out there.”

Co-host Joe Scarborough describes the “resistance” he received when he pushed to get her named the news reader for Morning Joe. “I could tell she was not a talking head,” he says. “She wasn’t like anyone I’d met in television news. She didn’t take herself too seriously and was obviously very quick on her feet.”

After CBS, says Brzezinski, “Nobody wanted me.

“I spent a year looking for a job. You spend 10 years at a place, you gave your heart and soul and blood for it, and all of a sudden it’s over? I was 40 and, quote, fired, and I’m sure people were thinking, what’s wrong with her?”
