Brian Williams: Katie Couric ‘Always Welcome’ at NBC

By Alex Weprin

MarketWatch.com’s Jon Friedman sits down with “NBC Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams for an episode of “Media Matters.”

Friedman asks Williams about his counterpart and former colleague on CBS, Katie Couric. Specifically, about rumors that she would leave the CBS anchor chair, and may make a return to NBC.

“I read something about it,” Williams, 51, said, smiling. “She certainly knows her way around this building. And most of us who are here were here when she was here, and I see her all the time. So, I will let all those forces play out as they might.

He also asked whether Williams would be willing to recruit her back

“Well, I can’t do that as a freelance, but if requested…” He paused and added: “She doesn’t need me to call her and tell her that she’s always welcome over here. There’s a very small community of people in this line of work and the relationship between viewers and Katie is well established.”

Video of Friedman’s full interview with Williams, which includes further discussion of his broadcast competition, and memories of Hurricane Katrina, is after the jump.
