By Jordan Chariton

First on TVNewser: Brian Stelter’s “Top of the Morning” which chronicled the rise of “Good Morning America” and the fall of “Today” will soon join the pantheon of Lifetime original movies including “Deadly Honeymoon,” “Romeo Killer” and, more recently, “Bonnie & Clyde.”

“Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV” has been optioned by Lifetime for a made-for-TV movie, TVNewser has learned.

Production company DiGA Vision had previously bought the rights to the book. Lifetime confirms it is in the early development stage for the film. DiGa Vision founders Liz Gateley and Tony DiSantos will be the executive producers. Their company is also behind the series Ke$ha: My Crazy Beautiful Life” and “My Life Is a Lifetime Movie.”

Stelter’s book on the heated morning show battles was released in April, to a tepid review by his then-employer the New York Times, and placed Stelter on NBC’s bad side for the book’s less than glowing portrait of “Today” co-anchor Matt Lauer and NBC executives.

Stelter left the New York Times last month to join CNN as senior media reporter and host of “Reliable Sources.”
