The founder of this very site is being honored with the prestigious Bart Richards Award for Media Criticism, presented by Penn State.

College of Communications faculty screened all entries for the award and decided on three finalists. Judges selected Reliable Sources and Stelter “because of his compelling work, a special strength in understanding the evolution and use of social media by the media, and his ability to offer cogent criticism on a variety of topics.”

After launching TVNewser in 2004, he remained editor until 2007, when he joined the New York Times. In 2013 Stelter joined CNN as host of Reliable Sources and senior media correspondent.

The Bart Richards Award is named after the longtime editor of the New Castle News. In his lifetime, Richards was president of the United Press International Editors of Pennsylvania, a founder of the Pennsylvania Society of Newspaper Editors and served three terms as a representative in the Pennsylvania General Assembly.

The award, which dates to 1979 and has presented by Penn State since 1995, will be presented May 26 in New York City.
