A fire gutted part of the Sharon, CT home of ABC News chief investigative correspondent Brian Ross Monday afternoon. Ross used the house on weekends and in summers and fronted several live shots from an office in the home (left) which was destroyed in the fire. According to the The Register Citizen newspaper, the fire in the two-story colonial began around 2:30 and was contained by 4pm.
Late yesterday, Ross Tweeted:
- A fire at my Conn. Home today, thankfully no one was hurt. Our family thanks the Sharon and other local fire departments for saving the house.
- The fire completely destroyed my office where I often appear during wknd breaking news and where I wrote a good portion of my book on Madoff
“The firefighters did a fantastic job saving the house,” Ross said during a phone interview with the Register Citizen last night. “They told me that the fire was so hot when they arrived that it was difficult to get the door open.” No word on a cause, but you can bet Ross will use his own investigative skills to get to the bottom of it.
Ross and his wife bought the home in the late 1980’s when he was still a correspondent at NBC News.
“Tom Brokaw actually introduced me to the area,” Ross told the Register Citizen . “He had a house in West Cornwall, and said that Litchfield County was a nice area to own a home.”
