Whenever Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre decides to retire… if he ever decides to retire, a career in football broadcasting may be in his future. Both CBS News & Sports president Sean McManus and former Miami Dolphins Quarterback turned CBS football analyst Dan Marino say Favre would be a good fit in the broadcast booth.
At a press conference this afternoon, McManus was asked whether he would have tried to recruit Favre to CBS had he retired instead of played another year.
“Brett, what he has done on the field, and the way he has been such an important part of the game, and the way he has been such a very well-spoken individual, I would certainly love to talk to him about it, absolutely,” McManus said, adding that the CBS Sports talent roster is already pretty full, so he doesn’t know where he would fit in. “But I have no reason to believe he is going to retire before I do.”
After the Q&A, SportsNewser spoke to Marino about what advice he would give to Favre, should he try his hand at broadcasting when he retires:
“Look, I would say keep playing as long as you are having fun,” Marino told SportsNewser. “If you want to do [broadcasting], try it and hopefully you enjoy it and you are good at it. I think he would be, but I also think he enjoys playing, that is why he is coming back for another season.”
Marino says being on TV is “fun.” So, Brett, there you have it from one former all-star QB to another. If you ever decide to retire, and at this point that does not appear to be imminent, there will be a comfy chair waiting for you in the CBS studio.
