By Chris Ariens

She was best known as playing Carol Brady, but Florence Henderson also was a fixture in the early days of morning TV. Henderson died Thursday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Henderson, 82, had been suffering from heart failure.

In 1959-60, after a few roles on Broadway, Henderson was the “Today Girl” presenting weather and light news stories on the NBC morning show. She would return to the NBC News family in 1999 as a co-host of the first iteration of the 3rd hour, which was called Later Today. She took part in the 60th anniversary celebration of the show in 2012.

Henderson continued her work in TV as host of The Florence Henderson Show and a cooking show Who’s Cooking With Florence Henderson on Retirement Living TV.
