Boise State-Virginia Tech A Labor Day Hit

By Marcus Vanderberg

The Boise State-Virginia Tech 33-30 thriller on ESPN drew a 6.8 overnight rating, up 21 percent from last year’s Miami-Florida State game.

Just to put that number in comparison, Monday night’s game trails only the Pro Bowl (7.9), The Decision (7.3), and Game 6 0f the Boston-Cleveland series (7.1) in terms of the highest-rated sporting event on ESPN this year.

Boise State-Virginia Tech fell short of the all-time record for an ESPN college football game, a 7.2 rating for USC-Ohio State last September.

Keep an eye on Boise State’s next ESPN game on Sept. 25, as they play host to Oregon State. The time is TBD, but based on the ratings success from Monday night and the momentum building around the Broncos, could we see the blue turf under the lights and in primetime?

Stay tuned.
