Bobby Knight Apologizes For Comments About University of Kentucky Basketball Team

ESPN college basketball analyst Bob Knight has apologized after accusing University of Kentucky basketball players of not attending class during their spring semester.

“My overall point is that ‘one and dones’ are not healthy for college basketball,” Knight said. “I should not have made it personal to Kentucky and its players and I apologize.”

Knight made the comments about the starters from the 2009-10 Kentucky team during a speaking engagement in Indiana on Saturday.

“Bob Knight’s comments do not reflect the opinions of and are not endorsed by ESPN,” said ESPN executive vice president Norby Williamson. “We have communicated to him our disappointment and welcome his apology.”

Fellow ESPN college basketball analyst Jay Williams appeared with Matt Jones on KentuckySportsRadio.com Tuesday and was critical of Knight’s comments.

“I think ESPN should come to the table and do something about the comment because obviously it’s very demeaning to the players that play at Kentucky,” Williams told Jones. “I think those comments were wrong I think he does owe the fans at Kentucky an apology, but Bobby Knight is Bobby Knight and I’m sure he’s not going to give that apology.”
