ABC News anchor Bob Woodruff spoke with TV Guide about the traumatic brain injury he suffered as a result of an IED explosion in Iraq in 5 years ago.
“I couldn’t say hammer,” Woodruff told the magazine. “When I could finally say it, I spelled it h–a–m–o–r. This was my therapy in the first month or two after I woke up — just trying to name these things.”
Five years later, Woodruff finds himself talking to Gabrielle Giffords‘ husband — Mark Kelly — about Giffords’ similar brain injury: “I told him about the pace of recovery and the unpredictability.”
The ABC anchor isn’t fazed by the attack. He’d like to travel to Egypt, to report on what’s happening there, but his ABC news bosses are hesitant. For now, Woodruff has started filling on “GMA” and “World News” weekend newscasts.
