Blago: I Won’t Be Going on “Meet the Press or on the TV News”

By Chris Ariens

Illinios Gov. Rod Blagojevich met the press this afternoon and cited Meet the Press.

The accused governor made a brief statement, declared his innocence and said would stay on the job. “I will fight, I will fight, I will fight until I take my last breath,” he told the assembled press. Then he told them what he wasn’t going to do:

I’m not going to do what my accusers and political enemies have been doing, and that is talk about this case in 30-second sound bites on “Meet the Press” or on the TV news. Now, I’m dying to answer these charges. I am dying to show you how innocent I am, and I want to assure everyone who is here and everyone who is listening that I intend to answer every allegation that comes my way.

But he didn’t today.

And the guv has a few things to learn about TV. If he were to go on “Meet the Press”, or any news show, he’d have a helluva lot more than :30 to make his case. Live. Unedited. So why not go for it Governor? Can’t you just see the play-turned-major motion picture in 30 years: “Gregory/Blagojevich”?
