Politico and George Washington University revealed results from a new poll this morning. In addition to more standard political questions, the poll also asked about the media habits of respondents.
What did the results show? For starters, that the respondents may not have been representative of the public at large, as their media habits do not seem to match up to TV ratings. Regardless, the results did deliver some interesting data.
When asked which cable news channel they get their news from, 42% cited Fox News, which is far and away the top network in terms of ratings as well. Number two was CNN, with 30% of respondents saying it is their go-to source for news. 12% said MSNBC and 9% said “other.”
MSNBC beats CNN in both total day and primetime ratings-wise.
On the personality front, Fox News hosts Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly received the most praise… and criticism, from the poll’s respondents.
The poll listed a number of high profile media personalities, and asked respondents whether they had a “positive impact” or “negative impact” on political debate in the country.
O’Reilly was the leader among TV hosts in both categories, with 49% citing his positive impact and 32% saying he had a negative impact. Beck finished second to O’Reilly in positive impact, and tied him the negative category.
None of the MSNBC hosts: Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow or Ed Schultz, drew the response that their FNC counterparts did. Olbermann had a 23% positive ranking and 25% negative ranking, with Maddow at 18% for both, with 55% of respondents saying they had not heard of her. Schultz was at 11% in both positive and negative categories, with 70% saying they were not familiar with him.
