August 2014 Ratings: HLN Up Double Digits, #3 in Total Day Demo

hln logo_304x200HLN saw double-digit gains in August while finishing third in the total day demo, ahead of MSNBC.  The network also saw the second biggest total day growth year-over-year, behind only sister network CNN.

The ratings for August 2014:

  • Primetime (Mon-Sun): 361,000 total viewers / 126,000 A25-54
  • Total Day (Mon-Sun): 281,000 total viewers / 111,000 A25-54

Compared to August 2013, HLN is up +16% in total viewers and up +22% in A25-54 demo for total day. In primetime, HLN is up +17% in total viewers and up +13% in the demo. “Nancy Grace” led the way for HLN, drawing 400,000 total viewers and 138,000 demo viewers, up +12% vs. last August. But it was “Forensic Files,” which HLN runs in the late afternoons, late nights and all weekend long, which showed the most growth, up and average of +37%.

Primetime Programs Boast Double Digit Gains in Key Demo

HLN Bests MSNBC in Total Day

HLN experienced double-digit growth in total day and prime August 2014 vs. August 2013:

TOTAL DAY
+16% among P2+ (282k v 243k)
+21% among P25-54 (111k v 92k)

PRIME (M-Su)
+18% among P2+ (365k v 310k)
+12% among P25-54 (127k v 113k)

In total day, HLN posted the 2nd biggest increase in both demos (after CNN) amongst all cable news networks, and boasts the same among P2+ in M-Su prime vs. year ago.

HLN’s prime line-up also posted double and single digit increases in key P25-54 demo vs. prior year:
Jane Velez-Mitchell +28% (101k v 79k)
Nancy Grace +12% (140k v 125k)
Dr. Drew On Call +12% (122k v 109k)
Forensic Files +37% (125k v 91k)

HLN beat MSNBC in total day by +8% in P25-54 (111k v 103k). August marks the 3rd consecutive month HLN has bested MSNBC head-to-head (M-Su 6a-6a).
