Assassination of Russia’s Ambassador to Turkey Captured on TV

Al Jazeera English and CNN International are among the networks giving non-stop coverage to the brazen assassination of Russia’s ambassador to Turkey, Andrei Karlov.

Karlov was taking part in an event at an art gallery in Ankara Monday night when a man, believed to be a police officer, pulled out a handgun and shot Karlov from behind. Three others were wounded. All the while the news media, including broadcast and still photographers, captured the scene as Karlov had been speaking at the event.

“Don’t forget Aleppo. Don’t forget Syria,” the man is heard yelling after the shooting. Al Jazeera reports the killer was a riot police officer who didn’t report for duty today “due to health problems.” With his credentials he was allowed in to the gallery without issue. Turkish media reports the killer was shot dead by other officers nearby.
