Tropical Storm Erika has already left more than a dozen people dead in the Caribbean, with the island of Dominica hardest hit. And as the news networks mark the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina along the Gulf Coast, network newsers are keeping their eyes on Florida. As of 11 a.m. ET Friday, the National Hurricane Center says the center of Erika will move over the Dominican Republic this afternoon, move near the Turks and Caicos islands tonight, and move near the central and northwestern Bahamas Saturday and Saturday night.
As for coverage. The Weather Channel’s Mike Seidel and Raegan Medgie will report live from Miami throughout the day. Hurricane experts Michael Lowry and Bryan Norcross will report from the studio. The network is planning a 2-hour special Saturday at Noon.
NBC’s Janet Shamlian is in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Al Roker is providing forecasts from New Orleans, where he’s also part of NBC’s Katrina anniversary coverage.
CBS News will feature reports from Miami and throughout the region on the CBS Evening News, as well as coverage throughout the day on CBSN.
