A few days after a four month old tape of Mitt Romney speaking at a private fundraiser went public, a 14 year old tape of then-state senator Obama has surfaced, in which he calls for “redistribution.”
The new old tape has been making the cable news rounds (particularly on Fox News), it has received much less play on MSNBC. On her program this afternoon, Andrea Mitchell addressed the tape and had this to say:
“Let’s explain this redistribution issue,” she said. “Because we have not authenticated this 14-year old tape from Loyola College when Barack Obama was a state senator, so because we have not, independently at NBC News and MSNBC, authenticated it, we’re not airing it.”
It was an odd statement for Mitchell to make , especially because the tape did air this morning on “Daily Rundown,” and the Washington Post did authenticate it. That said, it bears a similarity to Fox News, which did not show the Romney tape until the candidate addressed it in a hasty late-night press availability.
Update: Politico reports that NBC News has cleared the video.
