Anderson Cooper Prepares for New Talk Show

By Molly Stark Dean

We headed over to Time Warner Center late yesterday for the taping of an upcoming AC360 special on bullying.

The show, hosted by Anderson Cooper in front of a live studio audience, will air next Friday at 10pmET, but the taping came on the same day Cooper signed a deal to host his own syndicated daytime talk show. We tried to talk to Cooper about it after the taping, but he wasn’t talking.

The daytime show is expected to hit the airwaves next fall, not long after Oprah Winfrey signs off from her long-running syndicated daytime show.

“Bullying: No Escape; an AC 360 Special Report with PEOPLE Magazine and Cartoon Network,” includes guests Dr. Phil McGraw, Rosalind Wiseman, author of the book that inspired the movie “Mean Girls,” American Idol finalist Crystal Bowersox, and families affected by the issue.

And the taping wasn’t without some technical difficulties.

Several times the program stopped, prompting mixed reaction from the audience. Cooper joked, “CNN’s a little new to the whole TV thing.” Another stop due to technical difficulties prompted the audience to talk amongst themselves with Dr Phil joking, “Don’t make me come up there.”

The program was quite moving and relevant due to the recent number of suicides related to bullying.
