Sports betting is changing. Companies are using technology to enable gamblers to bet in real time, increasing enjoyment for the participants and profit for the sports books. (It’s a volume business after all.)

Les Carpenter pens a story about the revolution in which he discusses Cantor Gaming, the Cantor-Fitzgerald subsidiary that’s leading the way into the future.

A massive computer determines the odds and establishes lines instantly. “Here the computer instantly decides what the chances are that a football team will have to punt or a baseball player can steal second base, then it spits those odds onto the tablet and the betting is on,” Carpenter writes.
