Anchor Shifts: ABC’s Good Morning America

By SteveK

The three evening news anchors, CBS’ Katie Couric, ABC’s Charles Gibson and NBC’s Brian Williams, appeared this morning on the three network morning shows to promote the September 5 special, “Stand Up to Cancer!” (and accompanying web site). The order for the appearances went CBS, NBC, ABC and was determined by what worked best logistically.

Before the segment, Gibson led the anchors with the usual intro of, “Good morning, America!” “That was weird,” said Couric.

Robin Roberts conducted the interview, and joked about the trio’s appearance. “Aren’t you guys like the president and vice president, you can’t be seen in the same room?” she asked.

“There are elaborate contingencies,” said Williams.

Roberts discussed her own battle with cancer, and Couric noted Gibson gave a “star” on the web site to Roberts. “It was a buck,” joked Gibson.

Couric also gave a shout out to the heads of the networks. “We should thank our bosses, because honestly, for them to give over an hour of prime time — that ain’t easy, right Charlie?” said Couric.

“Thanking our bosses isn’t easy,” answered Gibson.

“We love you and you look great,” said Williams to Roberts at the end of the interview.
