Al-Zarqawi Killed: Westin Praises Staff

David Westin‘s e-mail to ABC staffers:

“For those of you who weren’t able to join the 9:30 call this morning, let me repeat how proud we all are — and justifiably so — of the work done by our colleagues overnight and this morning on the Zarqawi story. Martha Raddatz proved once again the profound difference that outstanding reporting can make.

Taking Martha’s reporting, the organization responded perfectly. The overnight team and radio got it on the air well in advance of the rest of the world — including the wires. Chuck Lustig reported in from Beijing that China was learning of Zarqawi’s death with the credit for the reporting being given to ABC News.

GMA this morning was superb, taking a story that much of the world had learned about by that point and giving it depth and context that no one else did or could.

Congratulations to all of you who contributed to a wonderful effort with great results.”
