Al Jazeera Reporter: We Know ‘For Sure’ HGH Sent to Manning’s Home

By Mark Joyella

In an interview Monday with David Shuster, Al Jazeera investigative reporter Deborah Davies defended her documentary linking Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning to performance enhancing drugs. “We know that for sure growth hormone was shipped to Ashley Manning in Florida.”

Shuster noted that Manning had called the report, which debuted on Al Jazeera America Sunday night, “a joke,” “complete garbage” and “totally made up.” Davies responded the report was based on solid reporting:

“What this is, is eight months of a very, very rigorous journalistic investigation…The allegation in the program, which Peyton Manning hasn’t actually addressed in his denial, is that growth hormone was shipped to Ashley Manning in Florida. So if that is the allegation, the questions that haven’t been answered is, How long did those shipments go on? How much was shipped? What was the total cost spent on human growth hormone? But also here’s a key question – growth hormone is a very, very severely restricted drug. It’s not like almost every other medicine. There are only three very, very serious medical conditions for which it is legal to prescribe it.”
