Al Jazeera International Delayed Several Months For “Technical Reasons”

By Brian

The launch of Al Jazeera International has been postponed yet again. A tipster says the director of networks announced a delay until September yesterday. “After all the recent press saying May was launch date it’s a huge setback,” the tipster writes.

Agence France Presse reports: “The startup of Al Jazeera International, which had been expected sometime in the northern spring, ‘has been delayed, probably to the summer … for technical reasons,’ Al Jazeera Satellite Network director general Wadah Khanfar said.”

> Update: 12:07pm: “Another delay for Al Jazeera? Wasn’t it first supposed to launch in January 2005?,” an e-mailer asks. “Perhaps their much vaunted U.S. distribution has not materialized. There are a lot of expensive hires sitting around gathering dust!”
