Ahead of CNN Debate, Trump Slams Hewitt as ‘Third Rate’

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump hasn’t even arrived on the CNN debate stage yet, and already he’s knocking one of the questioners, calling conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt a “third rate radio announcer” after Trump stumbled during an interview with Hewitt Thursday.

Hewitt is set to ask questions at CNN’s September 16 debate, alongside Dana Bash and moderator Jake Tapper. On Hewitt’s show yesterday, Trump struggled with a question on terrorist leaders, and confused Iran’s Quds Force with the Kurds.

On MSNBC’s Morning Joe Friday, Trump laughed off the interview, accusing Hewitt of asking “gotcha” questions:

“When you say Quds vs. Kurds, I thought he said Kurds, this third-rate radio announcer that I did the show. It was like ‘gotcha, gotcha.’ Every question was, do I know this one and that one. You know, he worked hard on that.”

“His critique won’t change my debate questions or prep,” Hewitt told The Huffington Post.
